Class Description:

Puppy Kindergarten is specifically designed for puppies during the crucial socialization period of 6-16 weeks. The American Veterinarian Association has determined that it is best for puppies to be socialized when they have had 2 out of the 3 puppy vaccines.

Kindergarten will give your puppy a great start in the world by working on confidence-building, development, manners and puppy socialization. Fun and positive reinforcement, including verbal praise and treats, are the focus as you introduce your puppy to basic dog skills such as sit, down, come and stay. In addition, class exercises are structured to help build self-control and learning skills in your puppy.
At the start of the session, puppies should be between the ages of 9 weeks to 4 months for most breeds. Exceptions may be made for older puppies smaller than 10 pounds.

How Soon Can I Start Kindergarten?

You can start immediately! We do require that your puppy has been in your home for at least 7 days, has received the first set of vaccines, and has a clean fecal test result. Puppy classes are for puppies 8 weeks to 4 months of age.

Did You Know?

The primary reason for dogs landing in shelters and euthanized is unsocial behavior.

Don't let that happen to your puppy!

What Will I Learn in Kindergarten?

Puppy Kindergarten Classes are one hour long and are broken into two segments. We start with, puppies get to meet and play with their classmates while supervised by behavior experts! Puppies play first to burn off their energy which creates a more focused dog for the 2nd half of the hour.

Segment 1: Puppy Playtime:

During puppy playtime, our trainer is discussing the main issues surrounding puppyhood with the Puppy Parents.

Topics include:

  • Introduction to Leash and Walk Training
  • Nutrition Good Eating Habits Training including Waiting for Water Bowl Training
  • Desensitization and Familiarization Training with loud noises and common household appliances
  • Nipping and Bite Inhibition Training
  • Potty and Crate Training
  • Puppy Proofing the House
  • Nipping and Bite Inhibition Training
  • No Jump and No Bark Training
  • Territory Marking and Prevention Training
  • Grooming, Handling and Teeth Brushing Training
  • Rules, Boundaries and Limitations Training aka teaching your pup what is expected of them so you can hold them accountable and get that well-mannered pup you desire in the home, office, and outside the home!

Segment 2: Confidence & Body Language:

The second half of the hour involves building confidence through obstacle courses and obedience exercises. Your puppy will enjoy this stimulating time while he is gaining confidence and learning how to communicate and understand you better.

  • Introduction to Some Obedience Commands:
    • Sit
    • Down
    • Come
    • House
    • Leave It
    • Drop It
    • Fetch
  • Puppy Agility
  • Body Language: A dog’s body language is their first form of communication, therefore, we start with teaching you to read dog body language so you and your puppy can understand the same language.
